DESERT HOUSE  I

NW Arizona

The expressive, 'heavy' roof projects an assertive image for the diminutive 1400 sq. ft. vacation home — measuring up to the immense scale of a remote desert valley in northwest Arizona, while providing reassuring sanctuary from the foreboding desert. The roof embraces the sky, collecting scarce rainwater for grey water use. Additionally, the butterfly roof form facilitates air movement through the structure, via cross-ventilation and vertical ventilation.
