AZ STAR POD

NW Arizona

The self-sustaining Star Pod will be nestled in a remote, though, accessible valley at the intersection of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts in NW Arizona. Night sky viewing, including the Milky Way, will be offered atop the pod's roof deck (18.5' above grade), via telescope or deck cushions.

A tapering hexagon, the 300 sq. ft. Star Pod (excluding three outdoor decks), will host two adults, in a southwest hi-low mod interior, with inspirational twist from Prairie Architects — Goff, Greene & Prince. The hexagonal layout is centered about a "heliocentric" ascending spiral stair to "the heavens" (roof deck). The Star Pod along with hexagonal satellite site elements (outdoor shower, fire pit, shed) convey a scientific connotation in plan — a molecular diagram.

Most components will be prefabricated and assembled on site. Custom interior furnishings will complement the dominant hexagonal layout, as will the compact powder room.

The pod skin will be a ribbed, perforated metal rain screen and skylights will be let into the shell above opposing bed and sofa areas, all, evocative of the Gemini capsule exterior.

LED lighting, red night vision lighting throughout and convenience devices will utilize off-grid solar power (approx. 1800W w/battery).
